It is possible that you could stand in the parking lot of a hospital, watching scores of patients going in and out, then open your tablet to Marketscape - and the hospital doesn't exist in the data. Why is that? |
Networks of medical facilities often consolidate their Medicare billing under a single NPI for multiple facilities in a network. When this happens, the network is allowed to choose which NPI is entered on the claim. In these cases, NPIs representing a specific known facility could potentially have no claims submitted for that facility under that NPI, so that facility will not show up in our data. We have investigated whether there is a way to track back through the claims to identify the facility that actually provided the patient care represented on the claim. At this time, there is no way to do this.
