Overview
We get this question a lot from users who are looking at the Market Share Report in Marketscape Insights and the Market Assessment page in Strategy. The short answer is that this situation will happen whenever your growth doesn't keep pace with the growth of the market. But let's look at an example:
If we look at the chart at the right, we can pretend that the two columns represent patient counts. In the left column we have 100 patients. The right column has 150. The blue blocks represent patients admitted to a specific agency. In the left column, the agency has 25 of the 100 patients, which is 25% of the total patients in that column. In the right column, the agency has 30 of the 150 patients, which is 20% of the total patients in that column. You can see that the count of patients has gone up by 5 patients, but the percentage of the total patients has gone down because of the overall increase of the number of total patients. |
